Lappland is the most northern province in Sweden and also the largest. Its placed far up in Norrland. The name, Lappland was given to the province after the indigenious population, the sami. The old word for sami was lapp (today seen as a humiliating word), and therefore the name Lappland.
There is also a province in Finland with the name Lappland too, cause before when Finland belonged to Sweden, the province covered all the northern part of the Swedish Empire, but after the war with Russia, Lappland also was divided in two parts one swedish and one russian (today finnish).
The population is very small, only around 100 900 people are living in thirs great area. The largest town in Lappland is Kiruna.
Here in Lappland you can also find the tallest mountain in Sweden, Kebnekaise with its 2111 meters.
There is also a space base were ESA send up sattelites to the space.
