The province of Gotland is an island in the Baltic Sea belonging to Sweden. It is the largest island in Sweden and the largest island in the Baltic Sea.
The island have long been isolated from the mainland, and long time ago the population here had their own language, Gutnish that was only spoken on Gotland.
The island have been controlled by many states, by Denmark, bry Germany and today Sweden. The capital of Gotland is Visby and was a member of the medieval hansa-alliance wich "main city" was Lübeck in Germany.
Visby is surrounded by a medieval city wall even today.
Gotland island have 57 000 inhabitants.
