Stockholm

Stockholm

The capital city of Sweden, this is the real center of Sweden. This is were the governement has its seat, the Riksdag, were all political matter has its heart. This is also were the royal castle is were the King and Queen are living. This is also the center of fashion in Sweden, and also the center of media were all tv-channels have its head seats. Stocholm has actually a very unique status and almost every organization of any kind in national level, have its seat just in Stockholm and no were else. With a population with more than 1 million citizens this is with no doubt the largest city in Sweden and in the Nordic, well, with some competition from Copenhagen that sometimes claims to be larger and as well as Stockholm, they both compete of the title as "The Nordic Capital".

Stockholm is a city on many islands and have many bridges, it has its nickname as the Nordic Venice and has a yearly water festival.
In Stockholm there is many buildings worth to see, Stadshuset (The Townhall) for exemple is a very common motive in the skyline of the city. The old town, the royal castle, the parlament or the Riksdag in swedish. While i Stockholm a visit in the amusement park Gröna Lund is also worth a visit.
Stockholm is sometimes concidered to be the most beautiful capital city of Europe, and its a shameful pity that I have not been there myself yet.

Uppsala

Uppsala

Uppsala, a big city in Uppland, and the residental city of Uppsala län. It is fameous to be a university city, the oldest university city in the all Nordic actually. Uppsala has a population of 128 000 citizens and there by is the 4:th largest city in Sweden after Stockholm, Göteborg, and Malmö.

Uppsala was once upon a time the capital city of Svithjod, and here was a temple, Uppsala Temple were the people went to worship the ancient Aesir gods. The temple however was burned down after the time Sweden became christian in the medieval time.

Uppsala is probably most fameous for the cathedral, Uppsala Domkyrka wich is very common seen in the skyline of the city.

Uppland

Uppland has always been the ruling land of Sweden. It was here the swedish society has its roots and its here the power almost always have had its seat. It began before the viking era, when the rest of Europe was ruled by the Roman Empire, an ancient kingdom was created in the valley of lake Mälaren, called Svithjod. Svithjod was placed were Uppland is today, and was divided in four provinces, Tiundaland, Attundaland, Fjärdhundraland and Sjöland. It was in Tiundaland the capital, Uppsala was.

When the Kingdom of Sweden was created after Götaland was included with Svealand, this area continued to be the head of the land, but the capital was moved to Stockholm.

The modern capital, Stockholm, is by the way divided between Uppland and Södermanland, and Uppland has like the other provinces lost its political status to the län long time ago. Uppland today is replaced with Uppsala län, that has the same shield as the province.

Lappland

Lappland is the most northern province in Sweden and also the largest. Its placed far up in Norrland. The name, Lappland was given to the province after the indigenious population, the sami. The old word for sami was lapp (today seen as a humiliating word), and therefore the name Lappland.

There is also a province in Finland with the name Lappland too, cause before when Finland belonged to Sweden, the province covered all the northern part of the Swedish Empire, but after the war with Russia, Lappland also was divided in two parts one swedish and one russian (today finnish).

The population is very small, only around 100 900 people are living in thirs great area. The largest town in Lappland is Kiruna.

Here in Lappland you can also find the tallest mountain in Sweden, Kebnekaise with its 2111 meters.

There is also a space base were ESA send up sattelites to the space.
